Greetings.
What's the situation with obtaining work permits in Romania?
1. Do you need a degree to get a job as a teacher in a private language school or is a CELTA and experience/references enough?
2. How about getting work permits for other non-teaching jobs?
3. Can you get the permit after your arrival or do you have to apply from your home country (like Turkey)?
4. Is the process simple? How much does it cost? What did you need for the application and where do you go?
I'd be grateful to anyone with some experience or knowledge.
Regards,
Mike |

I would check with the embassy/consulate.
Are you Turkish? Or do you just live there? |

I just live/work here. I'm British.
A friend of mine met an American who worked at a uni in Romania giving conversational classes. He had no degree, previously worked at MacD's but had a package including free accom. etc. Another source said that the univs. often employ native speakers on coversational class contracts.
Anyone know about this?

If the position in Romania is similar to Bulgaria then you have ZERO chance of getting a degree at a university unless you have a degree, and preferably an MA or PhD.
MacDonalds are opening up in Eastern Europe. Maybe you could try them |

Ah ! Curses ! I meant to say "you can't get a JOB unless you have a degree".
Can you imagine someone getting a job teaching at a university in the UK or US without a degree ? Why should Romania be different ? |

I didn't actually mention any "teaching" as such. Students doing language courses at universities are provided with the opportunity to practice their skills with a native speaker.
A friend of mine learnt Japanese at university. She had several hours of regular lessons with experienced teachers and then a weekly two-hour slot with a couple of Japanese native-speakers who were employed there to basically give the class a chance to use and hear native Japanese. They didn't teach, just gave realistic practice opportunities. A very good idea I think you'll agree.
Naturally, those teaching the language at university level should have qualifications and experience.
