Hi there,
So the time has come to return to reality and leave the bliss that is Kuwait...
Does anyone know anything about shipping stuff back to the UK?
DHL and FEDEX are obviously out - any other ideas? I think there s something to do with wrapping my stuff in white sheets - or am i just going mad?
Cheers |

the post office or shipping companies
most post offices are open in the evening - try the one in the mishref coop complex until 7pm
they'll give you the rules and the rates (no liquid - package must be sewn in white clothe) if you do it this way , use stamps not a metered strip for postage - you'll have kuwaiti stamps for souveniers
or shipping companies via metal locker (go to the alumunium souq near al mulla downtown) or palletized crate or container (they do it) and sea journey to UK - they charge by kilo or a flat rate per container and can be rolled into a door to door wrap it, pack it deliver it and unwrap it there package
there's a thousand shipping companies to choose from |

I recently used GAC to ship quite a lot of stuff - I don't know how they compare with others pricewise but they were excellent; professional, punctual, courteous and nothing got broken. |

I had a very good experience with the Al-Rashed International Travel Co. They are in Safat. Tel is 473-1216. We shipped 10 cubic meters of household items to Japan. They were courteous, professional, and, above all, explicit with all documentation. Mr. Riaz Shahid was my agent and I recommend him highly. PM me if you have any questions. |

There are no shortage of companies that will arrange air-freight. Just ask around and get a quote. |

sea - stephen - sea
for shiiping companies, the prices air vs. sea is SIGNIFICANT
if you want air, go to the post office as all mail to europe and usa now only go by air |

What are you taking? I shipped 200 kilos back to the UK in 1996. The price was around $2 a kilo. I doubt if it is much more now (you can send stuff as excess baggage for $5 a kilo).
If you're sending by ship then you are not paying by the kilo, but by the container size. The minimum container size you will get is 4ft by 4ft. Considering how much of the cost is door to door delivery, I doubt if you will save a great deal unless you are shipping furniture. |
