About ILM:
They are based in Bakirkoy and have 6 branches.
I know a couple of teachers who are getting ready to leave because they are not satisfied by the housing situation. Apparently, the school is not very reliable when providing housing.
Schedules for foreigners change on a weekly basis - be prepared for a lack of routine in your life. Things are also generally pretty disorganized.
Teachers complain about sharing and not knowing what the previous lessons were, or even WHERE the classes are in the school.
The students are generally better than most dershanes. The school is modern, clean (toilet paper in the bathroom, etc.) and generally well maintained.
Tempers can flair up at the school from time to time, and Osman's wife can go crazy on you.
Over all it is a classic dershane experience. Teachers are being payed on time.

Thank you kestane! I have 31 posts and few gave me the answers that I was looking for. Thank you again.
I think I'll stay in Russia for the time being and look elsewhere in Turkey and the world.

Maybe Yaramaz would like to share her secrets as to what she does in class (in Istanbul) to keep her students interested and engaged?

Um, mescaline? Push-up bras? Heavy artillery? (though they aren't exactly secrets, eh Baba?) |

| Don't forget the eyeliner... You can get it cheaply by scraping up the black stuff you find on the ground in parking lots. |

Not a good idea, for the eyeliner.
A newbie EFL teacher from Canada which ghost helped secure a job in Istanbul in 2005 wore eyeliner to class (the teacher was male) and this and other things led to his dismissal from the school in question, which many of you on this forum know, but which shall go nameless.

Go unmentioned, surely?
Oh yes, Mr. Eyeliner - we all had a laugh at his expense. |

| One might even think that our reference to eyeliner might even have a purpose, perhaps a reference to an event or a person we have already heard about... perhaps we were using a device known as sarcasm, or even irony. sometimes that happens. |

I wore eyeliner to class once. Well actually, I'd forgotten I had some on from the night before, it happened a couple of weeks ago.
One of the students said "Alex, are you wearing eyeliner?"
"Do you know? I think I am" was my reply.
True story. |
