Can anyone give me info regarding the school? Is it truly international, or Turkish? Pay scale, housing,etc...? How is Izmir for a child of 11?

It's truly international, NATO kids attend it etc. At present it cannot do international baccalaureate but is hoping to offer that soon. It used to have a dubious reputation but the management has recently changed and signs are it is improving.
Izmir is a good place for kids. Other possible schools to consider sending one's English speaking kids to are Isikkent and ACI (American College).

How is Izmir for single (black) females? Can anyone make a comparison with Istanbul regarding this (where I lived before and didn't like much). I loved visiting Izmir, but it could be vastly different to actually live there. I have heard that there are loads of foreigners -- especially Americans -- living there, but I never noticed many. I am contemplating a move...

I've never worked in any of those places but I've taught an Italian parent of a student at MEF and have a Turkish friend whose daughter also attends. I have contacts in the other schools I mentioned.

As far as black teachers in Izmir go, I have known a few who seemed happy enough while here but didn't stay more than a year. I've heard it can be difficult to be taken on by schools, though.
There a lot of black Americans here with NATO and they don't seem to get any hassle though they do attract notice which some people might find hard to take.
