Hello,
Are there any foreign language institutes in Turkey that will pay for airfare or reimburse me once I arrive there? I'm in Taiwan and I've contacted some travel agents. The airfare to go to Turkey from here is very expensive.
Thanks |

if they reimburse you it's usually from your home country. But it totally depends on your place of employment. How long is a piece of string? |

Do any of the language schools still give it? When did it stop? |

Most institutes do not pay for airfare once you arrive there. A few upmarket k-12 Kolejler (Private High schools) do pay airfare from your country of origin, and those are places which insist on your obtaining a work permit from your country of origin. This was the case for me when I worked for an accredited K-12 in Antalya in 2003 - the school paid for a return ticket, but unfortunately was fired from the job for reasons which a few people here know about, but will spare you the details.
Backpackers are in a different category, and they tend to come into Turkey with no visa, and then just stay in the country with the 3 month entry permit, exiting the country every 3 months if they want to prolong their visit, or work in Turkey.
You should realize that the salary in Turkey is lower than Korea and Taiwan, where you have worked.
I myself, am working in Korea right now, as a teacher trainer, and the pay and benefits are good, but the lifestyle is much more fun in Turkey.

Hi Psy!
They won't pay you anything to come here. People come and go all too often. If you're willing to stay at a school for 10-12 months you could receive a bonus and half your travel.
It depends what your qualifications are and where you choose to work.
Schools like ET, ILM (i.e. private dershanes) will often pay a bonus for completing a contract. Are you willing to jump through flaming hoops? I have completed one contract at a private dershane and they paid me everything they said they would.
Unis and stuff probably won't give a bonus, but the conditions may be better, like more holidays and regular working hours. |

so the school was fired???
Some language schools still pay airfare, or a contribution towards same. Last I heard at a well known school in Izmir it was 200 for a 12 month contract. |
