Where would be a good resource to look for housing in Peru... are there any good websites, or is it best to show up and look for a place?
Also, are there high speed internet connections available in Peru... we are thinking of teaching online (with Sylvan online) while living in Peru, but it only possible with a good internet connection.
Thanks!

As for looking for housing, if you want anything that isnt extremely expensive best not look on the internet.

WElcome to the Peru forum!

Look at El Comercio on Sundays, it's the national newspaper. Clal early, apartments go fast.

In English, there are some listings, mainly in Miraflores here. http://www.livinginperu.com/classifieds/housing

We have 400 internet and pay a total of 185 soles, about 60 USD a month which includes the phone line. We have it through Speedy with Telefonica

My wife and I are both certified teachers with no TESOL certs. Is it easy to pick up ESL jobs in Peru? We would like to teach ESL part time. What kind of pay could I expect with no experience and no TESOL? We figure we can use Sylvan online to make about $1000 or so a month. Would this give us enough money to live on? We would need a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment as we have two children.

Thanks,
Brian

The problem isn't finding jobs. There are tons. Keep in mind the average pay is 5 USD an hour. THe problem might be a visa.

Do you have a visa? Schools, and some unis, but they are few and far between, will get you a visa.

Of you could get yourself a visa. If you can show that you get a fixed income of 1000USD a month, you can get a rentista visa. But it's usually for retirement. Here's a link that could help you.

If you have 20K USD, you could set up a company and get a visa that way. Look here http://www.expatperu.com/detalle.php?topic_id=464
and http://forum.livinginperu.com/index.php?showtopic=306

For info on prices look here.

For info on international schools and places to work in Peru look here
http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/job/viewtopic.php?t=4556

Good schools are Markham, Colegio Peruano Britanico, Roosevelt, LIncoln, Cambridge COllege and SAn Silvestre.

You can work in international schools. 1000 USD is more than enough to live on. If you only did that, you'd be fine. Start looking in September and go to international school fairs if possible.
