Yes, the language school pay is low, but as others have said, it depends what you're coming here for. If it's just nine months or a year while you check out the country, it's do-able, just best to have some money from home as a back-up (for travelling or in case of health probs etc). You don't have to have so much as the lira's so weak that you can nearly treble it, for British pounds at least, not sure about the dollars.
I think EF is a better bet than others, the salaries seem to be going up again after a four or five-year nosedive.
People say so many negative things here about universities and private schools that I'm not sure I'd jump straight into one of that kind of teaching environment first. You can always move on to one of those later if you decide to stay.
Language schools don't pay enough, it's true. Their starting wages should be much higher. One of my major gripes with them though is their lack of career progression. They just seem such a dead end. If you want to stay teaching adults then there don't seem to be any other choices. |
