Great

Once you get here, I give you three months, tops, before you run screaming for the airport and hop on a flight home.

No offense

...Because Japan is like Sugar: fine and fun in small doses, but not good for a steady diet.

Examples: cutesy Kitty-chan ("hello kitty") kitsch. In small doses now and then,it's cute-- as are women in short skirts and high heels and high squeaky artificially girly voices, or girls in little donald-duck sailor suits. But repeat it ad infinitum, and ad-infinitum quickly becomes ad-nauseum.

How long does it take for that gaijin awe and mystique-for-Japan fantasy to wear off, usually?

3 days...

...or two years. I'm not sure on that one yet.

My first trip to Japan was 2 days and one night, in Fukuoka. Japan was awesome.

On my second trip, I arrived in Fukuoka again around 5pm. I had a wallet full of Korean won, and about 1500 yen left over from my previous trip. When I arrived in Fukuoka, the exchange counters were all closed, and none of my foreign bank cards would work anywhere that I tried. I spent my 1500 or so yen on a bowl of bibimbap and a beer from Uprising (a Reggae bar in Tenjin). Since I was too cheap to use my credit card at a hotel, I just walked around Tenjin/Canal City all night. Luckly, some Japanese guy was willing to share his bottle of wine with me in exchange for some English conversation. It wasn't all bad, but the image of Japan-as-Shangra-la was forever broken.

I still like it here, by the way. I recommend moving to Fukuoka. It has a cooler vibe than anywhere else in Japan does, IMO. Plus, you can easily run off to Pusan for a few days if you wanna check out Korea. It's a cool city to run around in.

Why?! Shocked

Seriously. She can't sing. She can't act. She's about as bright as a very not bright thing named Brightless McBrightynot. She has the personality of week old wet coffee grounds.

As far as I can tell, she is the perfect example of all that is wrong with the manufactured Jpop idol.
