Great
Once you get here, I give you three months, tops, before you run screaming for the airport and hop on a flight home.
No offense |

...Because Japan is like Sugar: fine and fun in small doses, but not good for a steady diet.
Examples: cutesy Kitty-chan ("hello kitty") kitsch. In small doses now and then,it's cute-- as are women in short skirts and high heels and high squeaky artificially girly voices, or girls in little donald-duck sailor suits. But repeat it ad infinitum, and ad-infinitum quickly becomes ad-nauseum. |

How long does it take for that gaijin awe and mystique-for-Japan fantasy to wear off, usually? |

3 days...
...or two years. I'm not sure on that one yet.
My first trip to Japan was 2 days and one night, in Fukuoka. Japan was awesome.
On my second trip, I arrived in Fukuoka again around 5pm. I had a wallet full of Korean won, and about 1500 yen left over from my previous trip. When I arrived in Fukuoka, the exchange counters were all closed, and none of my foreign bank cards would work anywhere that I tried. I spent my 1500 or so yen on a bowl of bibimbap and a beer from Uprising (a Reggae bar in Tenjin). Since I was too cheap to use my credit card at a hotel, I just walked around Tenjin/Canal City all night. Luckly, some Japanese guy was willing to share his bottle of wine with me in exchange for some English conversation. It wasn't all bad, but the image of Japan-as-Shangra-la was forever broken.
I still like it here, by the way. I recommend moving to Fukuoka. It has a cooler vibe than anywhere else in Japan does, IMO. Plus, you can easily run off to Pusan for a few days if you wanna check out Korea. It's a cool city to run around in. |

Why?!
Seriously. She can't sing. She can't act. She's about as bright as a very not bright thing named Brightless McBrightynot. She has the personality of week old wet coffee grounds.
As far as I can tell, she is the perfect example of all that is wrong with the manufactured Jpop idol. |

Neongene, did you p-chop your avatar at all? It looks really weird on my screen, like the face is just popping out. Just curious... back on topic...
What exactly are week-old wet coffee grounds like in conversation?
Also, how would you rate the high-pitchedness of these women to that of drunken sorority girls? I'm just curious as to what I have in store.
By the way, if someone gave me free wine for talking with them, I'd say that was a pretty shangri-la-esque place. |

Or not
Hey OP, I bet you're gonna have a good time here, like most of the people I've met.
P.S. I've been here about seven years and I still love it. |

Guilty as charged, m'lud.
& I wasn't young when I watched either, young whippersnapper! *&* I'd point out that they flogged the whole routine from places like 'The Goodies' and earlier british comedy.
When, oh when, will the BBC see reason and release The Goodies on DVD?!?! |

Her music is awesome. It's quirky and fun. It makes me feel good. I listen to her techno/euro remixes at the gym and it really pumps me up (Ayu-Ro, yeah!). When she hits those high IIIII sounds, it sends shivers down my spine and makes me high in a way. You gotta remember that I grew up with hip-hop music. When I first heard Jpop, I instantly loved it. It is luring me to Japan and I can't help it.
I think I'll do just fine in Nippon.
p.s. - Is Ayu still popular over there or did she lose the crown to Tamaki Nami? |

Is the situation is Japan so bad they have resorted to hiring 12 year old school girls ? Here is a perfect candidate for a 180000 Yen a month job.
Japan is not half as good as you think it is, it just has the glossiest brochures.[/quote] |

You don't have the right to insult someone just because of their taste in music. Music is about feeling. If it makes someone feel good, don't go around bashing them and trying to force them into your closed minded generalizations. |
