Are there any good websites that list part time work in Hong Kong for English teachers? Or English teaching jobs in general?
Thanks

You can't apply for (or get) a work visa for part-time work in Hong Kong. Only permanent residents such as myself are permitted to engage in such activities, whether paid or not. You can apply for permanent residence after seven consecutive years of residence in Hong Kong.
As regards websites for full-time employment, try:

Sorry 11.59, but that's incorrect.
You can get a workvisa for part-time work -my spouse has one, although this relates to teaching in an international school so maybe viewed more favourably than working part-time in a language centre or the like.
I think it's as much to do with the salary as it is for the part-time status. Immigration dept would be concerned that a part-time salary would not allow a foreigner to pay for accommodation and other living expenses and therefore that person would either take other work (tutoring???) which, technically speaking, puts them in breach of their workvisa.
I think there's actually some minimum salary requirement for a workvisa, as my principal has been considering employing a part-time NET but says immigration wouldn't approve it unless salary met immigration's notional requirements (whatever they happen to be). I'm not sure, but suspect that my spouse probably got a workvisa because the application included a statement to say that my NET salary supports the household. |

Thanks, HK_Teach, that's interesting. May I ask whether your spouse has or originally had a dependant's visa? |

No dependent's visa in this case.
Immigration sought clarification (and a letter outlining circumstances) from both the employing school and my spouse but I think the fact that I'm already here as a NET (and on a good salary package) may have swung things in this case.
This experience causes me to think that although workvisa was issued in this situation, someone with a part-time job with low salary would probably not have been given a visa (which probably explains why language centres are usually reluctant to sponsor teachers for part-time jobs). |

Mikhy, all reputable language centres will ask for your HK ID card and proof that you are entitled to work in HK if you are not a PR. This proof is usually a dependents visa as any working visa issued is employer specific. It is illegal to carry out private work without a visa if you are not a PR. |

I was born in Hong Kong, thus I can work part time legally. I have a permanent identity card. If anyone has any tips on websites that list part time work would appreciate it. |

Wow just ask for a little advice on part time work and some people getting really sarcastic on here about it. You didn't have to get into some pushing match over here has permanent residency in HOng Kong or not. It's Hong Kong; not that big of a deal if you are a permanent resident or not. If anyone has some real legit information, I would appreciate it if you could post it. Whether you are PR or not! MOD EDIT |
