Yes a very worthwhile hero for Thrifty no doubt.

I have looked at English Teacher X and found it interesting but not as chuckle-worthy as englishdroid. Having said that, haven't read all of Teacher X's adventures yet. Something to do on another boring day at the office when no one is on MSN....

PS talking of boring days at the office, does anyone know how to make Turkish people spend money? I really need that information....

What do you want them to spend money on? If something is trendy, western and expensive, they seem to flock in droves to buy it. Then, they copy it and sell it in the pazzars.

I want them to spend money on English courses abroad, trendy? dunno, western? yep expensive? yep!

They come to the office and spend up to two hours looking at brochures etc but getting them to commit is another matter. Thank heavens for my international 'evre' that's all I can say. If I had to rely on Turkish customers I would starve.

And what's with people who come about 3 times a week and tell my husband what to do with the business and offer him the chance to open a tomato sauce factory? Are they just lonely or looking for free cups of tea?

I personally think we should move to Istanbul or Izmir, Black Sea people are just too stingy.

Have you noticed there are are quite a lot of Laz people with ginger hair.?

There is a reason for this. During one of the crusades a band of Scots got lost on the way to the holy land and ended up on the Black Sea. They decided the Black sea coast reminded them of home- cold, wet, miserable and green. They couldn't be arsed going the rest of the way so they stayed put.

That's why Laz have ginger hair.

See, we get everywhere.

Did you just make that up? You sound like that guy from "Goodness Gracious Me". Instead of "The Laz, they're Indian", it would be "The Laz, they're Scottish".

No, I first heard that years ago. Some guy down the pub told me so it must be true. Also in the 5thish century the Celts were conquering everywhere from the Black sea to northern Europe.

I'm not too sure about the ginger hair bit
Malcolm X had ginger hair, but I don't think he's related to
Malcolm IV who ruled Scotland in the 12th century.

You can get into some dodgy stuff if you start classifying people by their appearance.

The Celts did however come to Turkey around 279 BCE.
Three tribes were invited as mercenaries and ended up settling in central Anatolia. They ruled over Galatia for a while until they assimilated.
Apparently the famous Kangal dog is not originally from Turkey, but was brought by the Celts. It from this that they get their name.

Kan Gal: Kan from Canicular Latin for Dog as in canine. And Gal for Galatians.
