I've read teachers can be discriminated against because of age. Is this a serious problem for those over 30? I have noticed some ads only wish to hire teachers age 25-32.

It is not a problem for many of us. But the group of old fogies I hang out with teach adults, not children.

If you have any background in business, prefer to teach adults and will be living in a city that has an adult learning population you should be employable. Stability, sanity and qualifications seem to count for more than age in the adult market.

Good luck in your job hunt.

I would say there is a difference between long termers and those who come here for the first time when they are older. The long termers have established themselves in their jobs and are usually stable. The first time older person, may face some obstacles. These are mainly, as mentioned, for kiddy jobs, though. They prefer younger, supposedly more energetic, teachers. Of course, many schools just want a poster boy/ girl to sell to the parents. The prettier the better. Adult teaching jobs tend not to discriminate as much based on age.
