Sadly, last Sunday I had to get rid of "trial" cat. Fortunately I could give her back to her old owner, but in the 2 months she lived with me, I learned some very strange and interesting information about Turkish cat spaying.

About a month ago, she started meowing ALL DAY and ALL NIGHT and would not stop. She was healthy and fixed and had just been to the vet for shots, so my husband and I had no idea what could be wrong. First we thought she was just acting up and trying to 'train' us to do her bidding. So we ignored her, but it didn't stop.

THEN she started acting really, really funny, and getting worse and worse. We thought maybe she was really sick...finally after 2 weeks of this I took her to a vet nearby, Pitis Veteriner in Cihangir. I told them, she's fixed, she's had all her shots, she's recently been to the vet, she is eating and pottying normally... They told me they didn't know what was wrong with her, they want to do some blood tests and an X-ray. So, 190 YTL later, they still don't know what's wrong with her but they gave her some antibiotics and sent us home.

Then I went to work that night, and I was describing to another teacher how Barbaros kept walking funny, meowing, shaking her tail like she was having a seizure. She said, 'It sounds like your cat really just wants to be F****!" I was like, WHAT? That's impossible, she's fixed! Then the teacher was like, "Weeelll..."

TAKE NOTE: It turns out in Turkey, that there are TWO ways of fixing cats. One, you take out both ovaries and the uterus (like in the US). That stops all the hormones and baby making, etc. Two, IN TURKEY, you can just take out ONE ovary and leave the rest, so that the cat has a 'normal hormone cycle' and still goes into heat, which is 'healthier for the cat.' So, your cat will still go into heat all the time, but she can't have babies. WHAT??? WHY would you do that??? That makes NO FREAKING SENSE AT ALL to me!!! WHY would you WANT your cat to keep going into heat?

Long story short, don't go to Pitis Veteriner. I am sure they took one look at me and thought, "What a stupid foreigner, she doesn't even know that her cat is just in heat! Let's do some X-rays." I am slowly getting tired of this happening. How am I supposed to know for real if people are trying to cheat me or not? I hate feeling like I have to second-guess every person I ever try to buy something from here! Sigh. And I don't even have a cat to hold to comfort me... Crying or Very sad

i bet the circumcision for the male cats is even more expensive and time consuming. And if the female cats act that bad when they're horny then the males must be raping your teddy bears when you're not around

Wow, sounds like when you go to the hospital for a cough or something and end up with chest x-rays and a battery of expensive tests...

That's why I don't like American hospital. (*warning: women's thread material approaching!!*) I had a pap come out 'abnormal' because of a yeast infection, and rather than check first for run-of-the-mill infections the doctor wanted to give me a laser biopsy, which would have cost about $2,000. I declined.

And once at a Medi-Life, the ENT told me I needed a radioscopic laser surgery in my nose because of some deformation in there that might cause me to sleep with my mouth open, which would make my mouth dry. Again I declined without even inquiring about the cost. A week later we got a glossy brochure from Medi-Life about all the new developments there, one of which, of course, was the radioscopic lser nose surgery machine.

And if cat has one ovary and all the other bits, doesn't it mean she still ovulates (though maybe less frequently) and therefore can get pregnant? I certainly wouldn't trust this as a method of birth control for myself.

I'm sorry about the cat Shaytess, and even sorrier you were taken by the vets, who one should think could be trusted...

I can pass on the address and details of a very good place in Ortakoy if anyone wants their cat totally fixed. Mine was extremely horny, constantly and irritatingly, until my friend took me there. She's an ex vet and this clinic belongs to her boyfriend's family. Lovely folks, very sweet, very affordable (read: not Cihangir!!!!)

So DMB, do you like eating pus.sy? I do. I've heard most Turks aren't into eating pus.sy, can anyone confirm this?

You want to be careful about that, I've spent many an evening picking seeds out of pus.sy hair before chomping down on it.
