You're lucky they didn't make a determination based on your spelling or punctuation. Even though it's very easy to get a job with Interac, they still reject people. Various reasons for rejecting people are:

* the interview went badly
* felt the interviewee couldn't be trusted
* they lost some contracts with some schools
* they hired people already in Japan
* the interviewee's pulse was not up to snuff
etc....

The list goes on and on. You didn't get the job. Move on and don't worry about. Based on what you've posted here, you might want to consider having someone proofread everything provide in writing.

Canuck,

Well, excuse me Mad All that stuff said about spelling and puncuation was uncalled for. That wasnt even the question asked. you may be a perfect profreader, but you obviously know little about the subject at hand since you are talking out your ass. i was simply asking people who had similer experience with this company to give opions. I have a college degree, so do you not think i already know the reasons you listed. Iam always looking for ways to improve, thus my reason for posting the question since interact doesnt disclose anything.Next time you decide to mock me on my discussion board, do yourself a favor and dont becasue you just waste unnecessary space.

Dave Sperling has applied to Interac? Shocked

OP: Who knows why they didn't accept you? You had an interesting question where you asked how Interac could reject you without even meeting you but by that logic why would they hire you without even meeting you? If they hired everyone they gave phone interviews too then there wouldn't be any point in giving the phone interview in the first place; it would be a mere formality.

Canuck,
You might also have someone else proof read your own writing, before posting a message to critize someone else.

Take a look at your last paragraph and statement.

Instead of being defensive, perhaps just take his advice. Stupid little spelling and punctuation errors are made by everyone now & again. Moreover, possessing a degree does not guarantee one is very well educated, therefore it does not necessarily follow that you are, though it may suggest that.
Applying for a job where your function is to teach correct English, I would triple check your resume, letter and make sure you speak well at the interview. Your opinion on this matter is largely irrelevent- either take the advice or continue failing to get jobs.

I`m sure that Interac was taking meticulous notes of the punctuation & spelling, etc. OVER the PHONE Shocked

I`d say just move on...perhaps you were overqualified, and they`re looking for someone with no qualifications. Who knows...

Okay, so the first post got lost and this one will be much shorter because of it.

A. Canuck can tend to be critical, but his post was actually fairly useful. If you think it was overly negative, at least try to use it positively.

B. Wasting unnecessary space isn't really a big problem, since the space is unnecessary to begin with Razz

C. Your spelling, etc, aren't very good. No offense, and this is coming from someone that rarely says anything about other people's writing.

D. Did you at any time get frustrated with the interviewer? It could very well have been something you did in the interview itself, but we can't know what without having heard the conversation.

E. I don't think anyone has implied that he was not hired for his writing. Of course, without seeing his resume or cover letter, this can't be ruled out.

You guys need to get a life, seriously. I know it is important in Teaching English to keep the grammar and punctuation clean, but get a life. This is a forum where people get to it in their free time. Please, exercise some courtesy and decorum. For God sakes you live in Japan and should be highly aware of this. Much Love to all, just a little reminder.

davechile, he asked what might have gone wrong with his interview. You may not think it's important, but if someone doesn't know these things, then they are going to put off potential employers that do care about having capable native speakers. Now, it is Interac; so I don't know how much of a problem it would be, and we don't have copies of his resume and cover letter...

Like I said, I normally do not care about this stuff, and if this was any other post I wouldn't mention it, but the OP did ask for possible reasons for why he wasn't hired, and then subsequently overreacted when someone mentioned that his writing may be an issue. The fact is it actually might have been. We don't know, but it's a best guess, which with such a dirth of information to go on is the best we can do.

Point is that sometimes you have to discuss grammar, spelling, etc. I even defended the poor writing on the board in the main thread about it recently, and agree with you in general that people shouldn't get too bent out of shape over it in typical posts, when it isn't vital to the discussion at hand.

I wouldnt be surprised if money was an issue........if you indicate in any way that you are not fully prepared to be able to set yourself up in Japan in an apartment, and last 2 months without pay, I think that can be a BIG strike against you.

I interviewed with Interac one time and was not successful.......the second time, I was.....I haven't got a clue why......perhaps it was my clumsy answer to 'What do you bring to the classrom?'.....I wanted to say 'books?'.

The biggest reason that these dispatch companies don't hire you, has nothing to do at all with the interview, writing or whatnot.

1. Living outside Japan is a strike against you.
They only recruit outside Japan to built a name list in case their is no one avaible in Japan.

2. They lost the contract, they were bidding on.

I would consider myself very fortunate to have been rejected by Interac. An amateur outfit, if ever there was one. Get yourself an ESL teaching qualification (CELTA, or the like) an research who you want to teach with. You may want to consider China first, the demand is higher, and therefore the pay is higher, too.
