Exactly. I spent 5 years teaching English in Japan (without any qualifications, just a BA) and the experience was pretty much worthless by itself in terms of transferable job skills. Fortunately I learned Japanese while I was there so the experience wasn't a total waste (though of course that was a skill I learned completely separate from work), though even that isn't worth much either.
I'm hoping to build on my Japan experience in my new career (law) and it'll probably help me in a lot of ways. But if I hadn't decided to go back to school I shudder to think what would have become of me!!! |
