I adopted a cat here and want to bring it back to the US with me. Would appreciate if anyone could answer the following:

1. Where is the government office in Riyadh where I bring the kitty passport/shot records for the official stamp?

2. What's the process of getting the USDA approved vet inspection at JFK? How can I be sure there will be a vet working when I arrive? i.e. what if I arrive in the middle of the night?

3. How many booster shots are required for rabies: 1 or 2?

4. What is the maximum number of days allowed between the cat's physical here in Riyadh and my arrival in the US?

5. Where is a good place to buy a sturdy transport cage in Riyadh?

6. Does anyone have have experience with tranquilizing a cat? I'll ask the vet, but personal anecdotes would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance for any help

The US Embassy in Riyadh will lead you to the correct place and answer all these questions better than we could. I know it has been done, and is relatively easy based on some comments in another forum, you can PM me for more information on that forum.

As for the cargo safe cages, go to Joon on Takhasosi or any large pet shop. Just out of curiosity, do you think Bush Sr would approve of a Saudi cat in the USA? Shocked

I have heard that the International Air Transport Association does not recommend the use of tranquilizers/sedatives for cats and dogs being transported by air.

Of course Uncle Sam would be more than happy to approve of a Saudi cat in USA!
At least in USA, cats have animal society to protect them and give them all their rights which are missing in SA! Laughing
In addition, Dont you know that cats in USA have been trained by CIA to spy for them in Russia and other countries.

There is a large pet store near by the Tamimi supermarket on Pepsi Road. They may be able to provide some information to help point you in the right direction...it's worth a try. Or u might try posting an ad asking for help on www.expatriates.com under the Saudi section it's free...
Good luck!

If it all goes wrong, I know a lively cat restaurant outside Canton that would willingly take it off you! Shocked

In cat psychology, humans live in the cat's home not the other way round. Therefore, you didn't adopt the cat; the cat adopted you.
I wonder where he's planning to take you! Very Happy

This is why I don't get a cat. Fear of commitment.

I have heard that more animals die from the sedatives than die from the flight itself. Your vet should be able to give you realiable info, though.

Van, this may be the nicest thing you have said to me. Its so sad that I dont plan to return the favor. As for the other forum, its for pet owners in Saudi, given that you dont have any, save for your scrawny imaginary girlfriend in the fake photo of you, I dont think you would be interested.

Cats and dogs banned by Saudi religious police

I was shocked when I heard about it, said Fahd al-Mutairi, who owns 35 pet cats. What was even more shocking was to hear that the ban came from an authority that has nothing to do with such an issue

My little cat, Mimi, do not cry, why they hate you?

Thanks Sheebs. You are in fact doing me a favour. The last thing I need is another forum. All this 'pro-bono' typing . . . for what? To do my head in?! To make the day go by faster?!

The days were long but the years went by quickly.
