I have a friend who is considering coming to Vietnam. He wants to know if prescription medication is available here (specifically adderall or ritalin). Does anyone know about this? |

Answer is "NO!"
You can fill most of the prescription medication in Vietnam without doctor's prescription. If you have the money, they will fill it.
However, ritalin is considered controller substance (narcotic) in the western world primarily used to control the ADD or ADHD patients. Therefore, you will not be able to fill that kind of prescription very easily. |

Hmmm... I'd be interested in hearing second opinions on whether it's available in Vietnam. Perhaps available through a doctor or hospital...?
Ritalin is used to control young peoples' ( < teenager) ADD, isn't it? Does it also work on adults? |

ritalin for add or medical purposes is available in thailand through a hospital pharmacy with a doctor requesting it and if you have a copy of your prescription from your country or a pill bottle with the precription written on it. I don't know about Viet Nam, but in Thailand where I could not get vicodan or darvon for osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia and deteriorating discs, I was amazed that ritalin was availabe. good luck catnip |

Thanks, Catnip.
I was considering travelling to Thailand before VN anyway... this might be the clincher. I haven't tried Ritalin before, though (can't get it, here in Japan-- they don't recognize ADD/ADHD as a medical condition)... will have to try to get a prescription from scratch.
I've heard excellent things about the hospitals in Thailand-- surprisingly modern and affordable. I was surprised to hear about your difficulties concerning osteoarthritis, since a friend actually recommended I go to Thailand for joint-replacement surgery. Perhaps conditions vary enormously depending on the # of foreign retirees in that area of Thailand? |
