Has anyone heard of this organisation? www.sol.org.uk
They're in Hungary, Czech Rep, Slovakia, and Romania and Croatia. They get you a flat and the visa. In Hungary they pay 500 USD, and Romania is about 200 USd. Czech Rep, Slovakia and Croatia are in the middle.
Is this decent? |

They provide the housing. So this is decent pay or would I just be getting by?
What about Hungary and Romania? |

Getting by. It's just the nature of the job in this part of the world. You really have to do something above and beyond to do more than get by and that just takes time and commitment. Sorry, I know I've said it ad nauseum. But it's just the truth. You really won't land a job from abroad or likely in your first year that will do better. |

Guess we'll just have to pick a country, go with a place that will get us visas and try to make as many connections as we can so the second year I could have a better job. |

That's realistic. Maybe you'll get lucky and find something faster, but it's really not that likely - it's much better to plan for the more likely scenario. |

I looked into them several years ago and also had a chance to get in contact with some teachers. Some were very happy with the jobs and returned for a second year. I think it would be a great idea to ask to be put in touch with the teachers because they may have additional unofficial insight on different schools/placements from other teachers. Obviously this is standard advice - get in touch with teachers from the school you want to work at - but at that time it seemed that the whole group of teachers met from time to time and teachers in one country might know the gossip about schools in another. One teacher mentioned that the methods in the state schools were more traditional, which probably isn't that surprising - just not something that had occurred to me at the time. In the end I didn't do it - it wasn't for me but it wasn't bad. |
