I presently teach pronunciation and phonetics at a 'university' in S.E. Asia. I love my boss and the classes, but hate the wage and administration. Plus I am fed up with this country. I am looking to relocate where I can use my skills, and collection of resources. The challenge I am finding so far is that very few language schools teach pronunciation and those that do (universities) want academic credentials. Any suggestions on what kind of schools or what country is keen to hire North American English pronunication specialists? Of course, I can work on completing my degree but that will take time.

About me...

Pros

- three years plus experience in ESL
- mature (a minus in some countries)
- about to get a TOESL certificate
- university educated

Cons

- bearded
- no degree
- bristle at bureaucracy

So, starting as an employee then gradually moving onto operating as an independent would be best. But my impression is that countries with the most liberal attitudes to foreigners setting up and operating businesses are also the least financially rewarding. I am willing to go anywhere in the world that the money is good relative to cost of living, plus I can save US$400 a month plus

The short answer is call centre work in India, but you might find it worse than your present job.

wat comes immediately to my mind is any training which involves english for radio communication. e.g. air traffic, maritime traffic services or even airline cabin crew / cokpit crew. in-company work training airline staff.
i can recall seeing a couple of training positions such as these a while back. try doing a google.
best

Costa Rica is another big name in the call center business. There is a growing need for accent reduction specialists, etc. It is pretty easy to get a job at a private language institute to start with, and once you establish some contacts at multinational companies here in Costa Rica, you could probably go independent, or work directly for one of them.

Nowhere I know in Japan teaches pronunciation, except perhaps as a sidelight to the other English studies. Your biggest problem, as I see it, though, is lack of a degree. That'll be required in most cases just to get the proper work visa. Why not finish it first?
