Are these EFL teachers? What is the reason for the firings? You seem to emphasize and contrast "Western" and "Indian sub continentals". Apart from salary disparities, are there racial factors involved?

Dear Stan the Man

Although one works FOR the Royal Commission, one doesn't work AT the Royal Commission.

The Royal Commission is a bit like a county council and they do the hiring. You will end up at either JIC - Jubail Industrial College, or UCJ - University College Jubail. UCJ is fairly new, and much smaller, and on balance a better and friendlier place to work. JIC is where the axe never stops swinging. There is a lot more complaining at JIC.

Your salary looks okay and higher than most here. Housing is at the Industrial College either way, and it's alright.

Jubail is a sandpit. The best thing about Jubail is the road to Bahrain - 2 hours and 350 Riyals in a taxi. But you won't be able to go there for a weekend until the management gets around to sorting out all your documents; you'll be stuck for about 4 weeks.

Personally I don't wear shorts in shops or cafes but there are a couple of guys who do. I wear shorts when I go for a ride on the bike. You should buy a bike, too, because there are no cars, just the 600 Riyals transport allowance.

My guess is that they are continuing the process begun last year when about 40 JIC teachers some of whom were Ph.Ds and many of whom always got excellent appraisals were kicked out with a weeks notice. The object is to save money and produce a sycophantic and unquestioning
cadre of staff .
It will be interesting to see if the official Axis of Evil who are mostly
grovelling Brits and a Greasy Pole also survive this purge.

Please provide accurate figures and please explain why the Jubail 4 was fired/not renewed. I would like to know.

Please refrain from sensationalist headlines, back up your accusations with facts and not hearsay and petty gossip.

heresy?

I am glad I am not a "native" speaker, and neither will be my [unborn] children. That way, they will learn English better than they would if they were native speakers.

Cool

There are nowhere near 30 native speakers/westerners or whatever you want to call them at JIC.............
