Anyone have issues with using James Blunt's song 'he has been here' in class. I 'm veering towards not using it in class due obvious political tension .

I dont see any reason not to....except that James is a punk..once in Changchun I played to an audience of students and did the clash ( The Guns of Brixton). Not one word was said about the performance even though my partner and I had printed lyric sheets to hand out and had the auditorium singing the chorus.

Actually for my money ..I would play Too Much Junkie Business by Johnny Thunders....

James is a bit of a punk without the hairstyle but punk's aren't so bad are they ? I remember when I was in England last Punk's seemed to be making a comeback (in Brighton) . I mean compared to Backend Boys or Blue he's ok.

I've also thought about Faithless and their views on Weapons of Mass Destruction . But some of my students are clever and cotton on well . My view means nothing .Playing that kind of stuff in class it's hard not to look like you're coming from somewhere .

CJ . Guns of Brixton I know little of . Sounds like a reality / a problem that faces the UK these days. I'd have no problem with that but problems in the Middle East are more touchy - no?

It's like when I showed a group of raving , partying Lithuanians Trainspotting and one turned to me and says - Herion is good . Messages are always distorted .
