Anybody know of any good Indian restaurants in DF? Or any at all would be a start? Failing that, any Thai restaurants?
Thanks. |

I've seen a Tandoori in Anzures that looks decent but never been in. I can't remember exactly where it is, but it's one of those streets between Leibniz & Mariano Escobedo, north of the Camino Real. |

Sickbag,
There are some, I was taken to a Indian restuarant several years ago that was good to me, but I think us Americans have lower standards for Indian food than Brits do. But unfortuantely, I don't know DF well enough to tell you where it was! I went there on a pesero from Coycocan and we didn't change peseros so it must be on that side of town.
I'm sure Guy knows, but he seems to be on vacation. Maybe you could email him. |

My friend gave me a name of an Indian restaurant in Polanco. Have yet to get there but he really enjoys it! I would suspect he would know! The address is:
Dawat Restaurant
Seneca 31
Polanco
528 18 020
Hope you enjoy! |

It's our national dish you know, back in Blighty! Truly...the number of Indian restautrants surpassed Fish 'n' Chip shops some years ago...
My mum visits annually, and as a form of rent brings tubs/packets and jars of curry powders, spices and chutneys. It's pretty much the only thing I can cook, apart from Apple Crumbles. It doesn't seem to appeal to Mexicans much though....not converted anyone beyond my gf to the joys of a curry anyway. Maybe this explains the lack of Indian restaurants, although I too have heard of such an establishment existing in Polanco. |

Definately!
One of the majors at the university where I work is "Food Engineering" and I had a conversation with one of the professors once about a book he was reading. This book looked at standard chicken dish recipes all over the world and it found that the closer to the equator one was, the more ingrediates one used, Curries and moles winning for highest number of ingrediates in one dish, and the close to either pole one got, the fewer number of ingrediates, like Roast chicken with only salt, peper and sage, in the scandinavian countries.
But interesting enough, I've found Mexicans, don't like other "hot" flavors, even black pepper, which I use heavily. People will take a bite and say, "AY! PICA!" |

MELEE Ive noticed this too. One semester my students created a product/company to sell a Mexican/fusion product abroad. One group came up with a wasabi-chile de arbol paste for "sushi" (or what passes for sushi here). I rather liked it (burns downward and upward), but half the students who tried it ran out of class looking for water! |

Thai Food, hah! No wonder Mexicans don't like it much! Indian Food? Some of it is good, I love Mutton Curry. Indian Food is always a treat, but Mexican food tastes richer and more full flavored.
About spiciness, spiciness is just different...the spiciness is the food rather than the more full flavored spiciness of Mexican food where chiles are used to enhance the flavor of food.
Just my opinion. |

As much as I love Mexican food, it sounds like you really need to go to a decent curry house. A decent curry and a couple of Cobra/Kingfisher beers - heaven. |

BTW. For those ex-brits and fans of "British" food , I've found a place for Doner Kebabs in Concepcin Bestegui & Tajn (Col. Narvarte). The first I've seen in Mexico. (I stand to be corrected!) Just right after a night in the pub! |
