All said an done, I do concede that Saudi Arabia is a unique place, but people need to start living in the present and forget about counting the riyals...this notion; talk about the 300, 500 club just seems ludicrous.

I spend an average of 1000 a month on food alone! plus Satellite internet/ satellite TV, taking courses on-line, working on my art...painting and crafts, music, learning to play the violin, creative writing, socializing with friends, really like my job, fascinated by the weird, and wonderful everyday life on the streets, the sights, sounds, shopping for unusal crafts etc. travel in and around the city, interacting with people I meet daily, from the street cleaners, taxi drivers, to the neighbour next door and of course getting into lively debates with Cleo and company on Dave's ESL Very Happy or just chilin out reading a book....
... and still I manage to save plenty too! Come on...give up the 300 club and start enjoying what life has to offer!

Having worked here on and off since 1970 I think I could describe myself as pro-Saudi ! And poor - since I do not follow the precepts of the 300 Club ! A bunch of skinflints, misers and heretics ![/quote]

Hear hear on that; were on similar wave length...

What's there to embrace? Who are you? Tell us a bit about yourself. Post your pic and you may even get lucky with the sisters of mercy! Check the recent muttawa thread to see the (unrealistic, IMHO) desired prerequisites.

Why? Are you thinking of coming here or is this for a Psych 101 paper?

This is the central theme of my life. I rarely venture outside my pad, let alone my compound, and I keep the curtains drawn 24/7. It's rough sometimes but I survive OK. Like anything in life you just get used to it. Whether I'm mad or not is for others to judge, but I often wonder if I'm doing any permanent damage to myself. Only time will tell if that's the case.

I'm truly happy for you cmp45 but KSA has nothing to offer or interest me except moolah omar, holidays and exit-only visas.

Baby, I've been waiting, I've been waiting night and day.
I didn't see the time, yeh Ive waited half my life away.
There were lots of invitations, and I know you sent me some.
But I was waiting, for the miracle, for the miracle to come.

You must be a whole lotta fun to be around...but never mind...I
can respect your choice to live out your existence in that manner. I don't mean to come across like everything is rosy and constantly have to be busy...of course I have days where I sit around in a vegetative state too. I have exagerated somewhat to get my point across ...case in point: yes I bought a violin, but have yet to get it out of the case LOL but at some point will get round to it...the fact remains you do what you do to make it through the day and if it works for you then that is what matters.

...on a roll here...
of course I would say the biggest downside to Saudi Arabia is not having the openness to meeting women friends; to socialize with over coffee at a cafe or whatever...which is probably why on Dave's ESL there is the tendency to want to interact with the women on this site more...as if they don't already know this LOL

Like these women with screen name's: Cleopatra, Queen of Sheba and Veiled Sentiments, as an example,...I will be the first to admit; intriguing names which do conjure up all sorts of notions... Shocked It is an ESL forum and so "I try" to respect that too Rolling Eyes

I have never met these women and only know them from what I have read on this forum and despite the fact that I will NEVER meet them in person I still enjoy reading what they have to say...the good, the bad and the ugly!

It is just difficult, but not entirely impossible; this segregation of men and women, is all I am saying... that is just the reality of life on the ground and so I do my best to accept that aspect of life in the Magical Kingdom.

Despite how people may interact in some of the threads...I do enjoy the interactions with both the guys and the gals. I think of everyone on this Saudi forum as a "virtual family" of sorts... some get along and some don't...but for what it is worth everyone has contributed to the liveliness of this forum.

Now it is time for me get moving and do the "Tamimi- Jairir expat" thing....I'll be waiting in isle number 3 LOL
chow.

You haven't twigged. Davie's Queenies are in fact bots financed by the 'Association of Registered Saudi School Employers to persuade us that segregation of the sexes has its advantages after all.

And yet, Stephen, you seem terribly interested in us.

Far more interested than any of us are in you. That much is clear from just about every thread on this page.

You see, just can't keep away, can you?

Anyway, no need to waste words arguing. Any regular poster will know that you regularly run around after the female posters here, inventing 'nicknames' which might seem witty to a 10 year old schoolboy (but then again, they might not). By contrast, said female posters - though I suppose I only really have the right to speak for myself - don't seem to find you worthy of chasing, let alone of misquoting or inventing 'witty' names for.

And as for 'dreaming' about you, well.....

Congratulation for you next Millennium life!
Scot47, according to my sensory thinking, you were born around 1947 (+/- 2)? Laughing

Scot47, I hope you did not went through a ' brain wash' during your 37 years of duty! Laughing

I think I need a brain wash
It needs a clean
My mind must be filthy
After what it has seen

I need a wash
I need to clean my mind
Sometimes I get lost in here
And I don't like what I find

I think I need a brain wash
I need a brain wash

Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain, Brain

This is all very touching stuff, you may be a decent fellow after all. Just so you know, because others may nail you for it, chow and ciao are two different things.

I must echo Van's sentiments here, who is still in my good graces - it is unrealistic to assume ESL teachers would look like Gerard. He is paid to look that way and holds a Greek god-like attractive factor, even though he is Scottish. If only all Scotsmen looked like that, I wouldn't have to scewer them on this forum for fun and laughs because after all, who cares what they have to say when they look like that?

Disturbingly, I have to double echo Van's sentiments, is this OP looking for fodder for a psych paper, and why is this poster being semi-abusive and saying that people go nuts here in KSA? Or being sarcastic and saying we are surprisingly fun. What's that supposed to mean? I dont feel good about this OP and need to understand the intentions a little bit better before delving into such issues again, which have incidentally been discussed in great detail, and with a far superior OP presentation of the case I should add, under the topics entitled "Culture Shock" and "Psychonauts"
