Dear Fellow and Sister Peers:

I am in the process of completing my MEd TESOL from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. I am collecting data for a study on the occurrences of target language culture in ESL coursebooks. If you are currently teaching students who fall under the TESOL umbrella (ESL, EFL, etc.), and would be gracious enough to help this teacher finally complete her dissertation, please PM me, and I will happily send you this 5 question survey. Thank you in advance!

Can you please elaborate on your thesis topic, please?

The target language for ESL is English, correct? So are you researching "English-language" culture? What do you mean by that?

ESL is taught in Australia, Canada, and many other countries. Do you mean, for example, occurrences of Anglo-Australian culture found in Australian ESL textbooks?

That's the reason for the broad term "target language culture'-all cultures that traditionally associate themselves w/ the English language (not including countries like India, Singapore, Malaysia, etc.)

I am studying the frequency in which the coursebook content refers to English-speaking cultures. It could be a task discussing Australian national holidays, an exercise on the state capitals in the US, a text about what the queen of England has for breakfast, etc.

The questionnaire focuses on the individual teacher's perceptions of that content's effects on motivation, class pace, interest, etc.

Okay, that's a lot clearer now! Thanks.

I'll gladly fill out the questionnaire. Please feel free to PM me.
