Has anyone else had their school request that they provide their actual College Degree (not a copy of it) when they come to China in order to receive their workers visa? This seems like a delicate document to travel with, and I'm not to sure why a copy of it would not be sufficient! |

I've never provided more than a photocopy/scanned copy/fax copy ... they have never asked for more. I do have my original with me and it's hardly a sensitive document - it's a piece of paper that can be replaced at an emails' whim ... Lose it, get another. No logical reason to lose it; mine is in it's original soft folder and at the bottom of my suit case. You should have a proper original or notarized/certified copy of your original - thus helping to alleviate all too many liars and fakes out there. |

Hepcat,
This happened to an American teacher in the uni where I am working. Everyone else submitted photocopies of the original but he was required to submit the original.
Under no circumstances should you place the original of your diploma in their hands. If need be, you can have sworn copy made of the original, either at your Consulate if you are in China or even using a more complicated Chinese process. Either they will loose it, or more dubiously, they will use it to make diplomas for their FTs who do not have them (this I have also seen happen -- this is China after all
If you are overseas, you can have a sworn copy made in this manner : (a) first make the copy and a sworn statement attesting thereto; (b) have both of them notarized or whatever the equivalent process in your country is ; (c) then have notarization attested to by the authority that issues the notarial seal (secretary of state, etc., etc.,); (d) then have that apostilled by the office-in-question previously mentioned; (e) with that in hand, the Chinese Consulate will then legalize the document.
It sounds complicated but there are agencies that specialize in this kind of work. In the States, the agency fee runs about USD 75.00 plus all of the other fees (maybe another USD 50.00),
If you are in China, make a photocopy, have it notarized at the Consulate as I said, and then ask them how to get the appropriate Chinese apostille on it.
Any further questions, PM me please. |
