I surfed around about a month ago, was only able to find 2 places in Japan that offered CELTA, and only one of those was an intensive (1 month or so) program. That program was offered at a time of the year I couldn't make it. I need something no earlier than mid September.

I pretty much resigned myself to take it in Thailand, but now I found this forum. So does anyone know of a Japanese intensive CELTA ofered after Sept 15 of this year?

I'm not sure anywhere does it in Japan in September. I know at the British Council they are currently doing the semi intensive course now which I'm doing, and come July I think, the intensive course will start.

Be prepared for some hard graft due to piles of work and planning that will inevitabley come your way, lots of pressure due to being observed and making deadlines and grow thick skin due to criticism from the tutors and peers about how crap your lesson was!

Very Happy

Take the course in Thailand. It's cheaper and you get to spend some time in Thailand. I wouldn't take it from Shane. Why would you want to support a company like that? I know the course is offered in Kobe, at various times, but I don't think the one month intensive is offered there.

Go to Thailand, learn and have a good time!

Of the places I checked out, the British Council was the one that offers the full time course. As Odango mentioned, it starts in July, so I can't make it. The other place is Kobe, but they don't offer full time. I'm pretty sure Shane English School offers a different certification.

This is a little off topic, but I've been hearing you get graded. Does the grade matter to a prospective employer, or is it more a question of whether you have the certificate or not?

A higher grade is better, obviously, but in reality, it's weather you have the certificate or not. Just think, there will be people with lots of teaching experience and people with no teaching experience taking the course. You will get a good foundation from the course, and that's the best part.

Thanks canuck! I'm leaning heavily towards Thailand, btw.

The grade is pretty much meaningless. I don't think it makes much difference, of course this is coming from someone with a pass. Very Happy

Your CELTA instructors can also teach you how to spell "whether." Good to know if you want to be an English teacher. Rolling Eyes

Looks like I made an error. Doesn't happen often, but it happens.

I'll take a mistake like that rather than being a mistake like yourself.

I would recommend doing an intensive course as I have known people to go a bit crazy on the Kobe part-time one and it's something that begins to really drag if you do it over a long period of time.

I did mine in Thailand and full-time. I did it with this company and I thought that they were pretty good.

I got an A because I am an amazing teacher but grades really don't matter much.

Hi furiousmilksheikali, that's the company I'm considering. I think they are the only ones in Thailand. Which center were you at?

I've been digging around a little, but haven't found anything more about grades. What are the possible grades for a CELTA?

So far I have learnt to spell on the Celta course the following words: opinion, requirement and numbness!

Money well spent Smile

I imagine the intensive course would kill me and break my soul. Bow to ye who achieve greatness via full-time celta courses.
