I know people get sensitive about this subject on the forum but, I think there are just few women on these forums that are single in relation to the guys. I am a single guy heading down south to start my new career in TEFL. I love the latin culture and the warmth of the people. I would like to do a homestay but, I am driving my self down from CA with my 100lbs Lab and that would be a very accepting family to allow a dog in your home. I diagress. But, I would be delighted to hear from the whole population of the Latin American teachers forum on your experiences with the Latin Ladies. Guys, your dating experiences + culture Married guys - when your were single and now have latin wives; Ladies your experience of being an expat gal making friends with the latinas and embracing the culture.
My faith is important to me and chasing skirts isn't my bag. I'm no backpacker nor a middle aged divorce (no offense intended).
Much love - looking forward to this new phase in my life.

Congratulations on giving something new a try. I don't know if I can impart a lot of valuable information on the subject of Latin Women although having dated them in both the US and overseas, I maintain a strong preference for the overseas versions. Less materialistic, more comfortable in their own skin, and a better sense of feminine identity.
I wouldn't be so quick to make the assertion that there are more single guys heading to SA than women as most of the female ESL instructors I met were happily dating local men and many explained this as a motivating factor to come south. |

I confess... I am one of those non-responding viewers! I'm not a single guy, so I really can't help you out. I could tell you stories about the dating scene for single women, though, and how glad I am to be out of it! (I get the impression that's a minority opinion, though--a lot of foreign ladies seem to really dig Latin boyfriends.)
The women friends that I had were generally very thoughtful, always wanting to help out even if I didn't need help. A lot of the women that I knew were into going out to clubs. In a western context that might imply drinking and hooking up with members of the opposite sex, but in Peru it seemed to be about actually dancing.

Free advice-
If you want to date and meet people in Latin America, learn to dance!

Yes, I need to practice. I have rusty hips. It is a crazy catch-22 with latin dance. Men lead and must learn to lead from a man or teach themselves. I am not really excited about dancing with another guy to learn how to lead. Funny how that works.

Actually, if you dance with another guy, you will just learn to be led. You either need a guy and a girl to teach you, you are behind the guy watching what he does, and or he stands from behind you giving instructions. He might put his hands on your hips to guide them, I hope you can handle it.
OR a really good women can teach you how to lead or dance with you in such a way that she is actually leading you.
The trick is learning how to learn how to keep your body both firm and relaxed at the same time! |

davechile,
One more thing to add: If you are interested in forming a relationship with a latina and want a city with a diversity of latina nationalities to date, the best place you can find is not in South America.
Take the first plane to Miami. I lived there for 4 years. In south Florida, you have boatloads of Colombianas, Cubanas, Nicas, and other latinas to approach. And amazingly, some of them even speak English!
Park yourself on a bench in International Mall in Kendall and let Latin America come to you. If you already know of a specific type/nationality that your heart is seeking, then skip all the above advice and enjoy your travels. |

I agree that a lot of Latino ladies like to dance....and they expect you to dance well in my experiences! I found it very frustrating as my girlfriend was pretty good at the old salsa but never had enough patience to teach me more than some very basic (and not very exciting!) steps. She'd then tell me off when I tried to improvise, which caused a few arguments as I reckoned the point of dance should be to enjoy yourself!
Oh and you may well have to wait quite a while for a girl...time is not as rigid a discipline over there!!
Good luck |
