Any suggestions for English schools in Adana? I am planning to move to Turkey next month and I am having difficulty finding reputable schools on the web. I have the qualifications to teach in a language school (TEFL certificate, graduated from university and taught in Instanbul years ago). Any suggestions? |

There is a private kolej that regularly need Englisch teachers. I think it is called Cag or Cog or something like that. |

Hey
well im working in Adana right now, there are loads of schools here, they just dont advertise becuase they get a lot of Americans from the American base. Im English by the way. Im currently working at English Home, its really relaxed, good boss, great materials. English First is coming here, Delta is already here, but i dont know much about them. There are also 2 universities, but i have heard mixed things about them. Good schedules, ok pay... when they pay, you understand me.
hope this helps |

Hi Guinness,
I am going to be moving to Adana soon and have been looking at working at English Home, so I was wondering if it would be ok if I asked you some quesions?
I am English, currently living in London with my husband who is from Adana. I have completed my TEFL certificate and have a university degree.
I have been told that English home pay about 3,000 TRY a month - do you know if that is correct as it seems quite high for Adana wages?
What are the hours like - is it Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm or does it include weekends and evening work?
Do you have to speak fluent turkish to work there? I am learning at the moment but still have a long way to go.
Any other information you can provide me with would be great.
Thanks for your help.

3000 is a little high
currently i am getting between 1300-2000 depending on the month. However this does include free accomodation, work and residence visas.
Also its nearly the end of the school year, contracts will be renewed and you would hope that wages will go up.
So anything can happen.
weekends are the busiest time, i have mondays off. The summer is different though, usually more relaxed. You can expect around 25 hours a week at present.
Fluent turkish are you kidding;) dont worry about that, we have teachers here who have been here years and still cant speak it.
Sorry i didnt reply before, been so busy. I think you will like Adana, the streets filled with orange trees, beautiful fountains on every roundabout and the new parks are really great. Warning the summer is HOOOOTTTT. OVER 40! but dont worry you will get used to it.
take it easy |

I think adana has the honour of 'nicest train station bar in Turkey' It is a lovely beer garden with lots of nice plants, pretty flowers and ivy stuff growing in trellis above your head. |

There are lots of language and private schools in Adana but many of them don't want to pay the salary for a native speaker. I live in Adana and work at a private school. the pay is better than the language schools and the work hours are better. we work form 8.50 until 3.45 and finish early on Fridays. It all depends what you are looking for. |

Hello Angela,
Is this Angela from Cag University?
Are you serious about the hours, they sound very interesting?
Your right about money in language schools. As i said before i am lucky i get free accomodation in a good area, but when you compare this with other schools and the benefits in them, it is shocking what some langauge schools are giving.
Will you be having any openings for next year? I would be interested to talk about a position. |
