I found this course on the internet that says it will provide me with a TESOL certificate and I'm wondering if it's worth pursuing. The name of the company providing this course is Global Enlgish (http://www.global-english.com/). Anyone familiar with it? I have no teaching experience, so other than a bachleor degree, this would be all I have avalible to impress a potential employer with. It will cost me though, both time and money.
The courses are accredited, so no worries there.
Considering the effort, is it worth taking one of these courses? It would be a shame to waste time and money on it if I don't need it. |

DONT DO IT! We paid like $500 for courses that were horrible (for number 1) and no one even cared that we got it. They didnt even look at them. And this job told us that they would help us find a job...this is the website they gave us...nova's site! yeah, I was angry, but you live and you learn right? So now we are in Japan, $500 short and teaching a job that couldnt care less if you I had a tiny Tesol certificate....if you have a college degree, you can get a job here...no problems.. |

Really? They didn't even look at them? Thanks! I'm glad I asked before applying.
How did you get your job by the way? Did you go to Japan before you started searching? |

No I found it on Ohayo-Sensei. It is a website that lets you look at all of these jobs posted, you have to click on the link that lets you look at the recent edition of the newsletter and get the HTML version. There is like a million jobs on there. I dont know if mine was a super de duper choice but it did get me to japan, and it pays decent.
I dont know if I would come to Japan before getting a job although you would probably get a better job, but who knows when you would actually get it. The best bet is tough out a job for the first year and then have your "pick of the litter" because you will already be here and will already have some experience under your belt (oh and you will have money). |
