Why is Japan so much more expensive than the rest of Asia? I noticed that Japan is even more expensive than the US in certain areas (ex: food or alcohol). How can a country with a strong economy be this expensive?

Application of basic economics will give you the answer. Also, Japan has a very insular trade system where farmers are subsidised to protect the local rice growing industry and rice is sold at exhorbitant prices.

However, for a first world country, Japan is not expensive at all. Compare Tokyo to London, for example.

Now, I tell what I do like is a nice bit of cheese on toast. I use I nice sharp Cheddar and some crusty bread cut from a fresh loaf. I like to toast the cheese until it is bubbling and golden brown, then add a good splash of Worcester sauce. Bingo! Bloody lovely with a fine bitter English Ale.
