Hello sister/fellow ESL teachers!
I'm a student at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, and I'm collecting data for my study on the occurrences of target language culture (that's any culture associated with English-speaking countries) in ESL coursebooks. I've got a questionnaire that should take less than 10 minutes to complete, and I've included it in the body of this message. If you would prefer to receive it via email, please don't hesitate to PM me and say so. Thank you in advance for participating.

I feel the Q'aire
is like Cloze-type square holes
for my round pegs.
So...I choose to respond
in an open-ended nanner.
Whenever possible,
I choose NOT to even use textbooks...
except for the very good Market KLeader Oxford Press type...
since it is consciousness-raising and intrinsically interesting.
As I see it,
textbooks (and classrooms and teachers and...)
can all-too-easily
raise the Krashen-ian affective filter.
I choose to use movies.
Best...is a Learning Program(me)
in which the learners have a Market Choice
(as in Market Economies and real life)
So...when folks can CHOOSE
even the movie segments
they will focus upon/role play...
then that's quite different than generic
"target language culture"
How?
In Intensive Sessions,
have multiple learning modules...
...give the learners choices and freedom to choose
"School's out for summer"
democracy in education remains rare
even in the so-called
"People's Democratic Market Economies" |
