It isn't going to be easy, but I really want to give Europe a try.
Even with all the warnings of how impossible it is without a passport, my boyfriend and I are going to try our best to get a teaching position in Spain or Portugal, and have even planned a trip there to do some knocking on doors. I'm hoping there are some teachers out there in Spain or Portugal who might be able to give us some advice on how to get a leg up, words of wisdom, or possibly some encouragement. We are not in it for the money, completely for the experience.
Can anyone help us out? We're in Europe at the end of August, with intentions to hopefully be teaching by the end of September. |

First of all, I'd say you should get a TESOL certificate. Next, I'd say stick to the big cities: Madrid, Barcelona or Valencia in Spain; Lisbon in Portugal. Next, be patient and don't expect it to happen all at once. You should bring enough money to last you at least three months, as even if you would be fortunate enough to find work right away (and I am not saying that is likely), payday wouldn't be for another month or so.
Buena suerte,

Im not saying I agree with you coming somewhere where youre not legally allowed to work but if you come to Madrid youll get a job easily at anytime except summer. Anyone who tells you otherwise is mistaken.
Good luck |

I don't think any of the regular posters on Dave's try to say that a North American can't find a job in Spain. Just not a legal one. |
