So I have been doing some preliminary work trying to find used household furnishings so when we get to the RAK, we can be informed consumers.
Where are the best places to look to buy household goods online?
I know about the gulf news classifieds, but what else is there out there?
Thanks. |

if so, you'll have direct access to the HCT "staff for sale" newsgroup. Any HCT staff member can post stuff for sale on the newsgroup and you'll have access.
Drawback - the perfect sofa may be in Al Ain - about 4 hours away. Upside, transportation is both plentiful and by Western standards dirt cheap. Try to get a recommendation from colleagues.
Another downside of course is that most people are leaving and therefore selling up now. I do know of someone (not in RAK unfortunately for you) who is storing their stuff in anticipation of the new intake in August. Most people don't have that option.
There is usually an area in most UAE cities that has a street full of second hand furniture shops and no doubt RAK has one as well.
Some grocery stores also have community bulletin boards for posting cars and furniture as well. Someone from RAK will have to comment on what's available there.
HCT does give you an adequate allowance for the basics. If you have to purchase white goods, that can cut into it a little deeper.
Good luck |
