Hello folks! I was just wondering if anyone can help me out with this: I'm a US citizen who's going to finish a contract here in Korea in July of this year and would like to work in one of the smaller cities in the Czech Republic, BUT what happens when they switch to EU in 2004? Is it, oops, sorry fella? Would I get a bit of leeway since I started before the EU nonsense was imposed? Does anyone know for sure? Any and all help would be much obliged. Thanks.
Cheers,
Kris |

As far as anyone knows right now, nobody knows. It is still pretty unclear when exactly in 2004 CZ is entering the EU, and further, what that will mean to non-Euros working in the country. Personally, I think it's a safe bet that work and residency permits issued from September 2003 to the end of June 2004 will be honoured. Your chances of coming back for a second year, however, might be slim. Some schools are now taking this into consideration and looking for British teachers, but a lot of them aren't even thinking about it and you still have a good chance of getting a job. Good luck! |

EU Nonsense ? Immigration control is imposed everywhere by all states including the USA.
When the tables are turned you do not like it ? |

The entry date for the 15 new members of the EU is January 1st 2004 - that has been known for a long time.
As of that date EU employment law applies - that means freedom of movement, goods, cash and workers within the EU
Citizens of none EU countries will be subject to restrictions.
Clear ? |
