Was this compound for women only or was it mixed?

And were the "Muslim ladies" you speak of raised as Muslims, or were they "reverts"? I don't know why, but I suspect it may be the latter...

There is a bit of a hyperacademic, overly moral feel about most of the female teachers at PMU. Most of the PMU teachers are at the new compound that most have heard about (three bedroom villas, blah blah blah). There is a mix of male and female non-Muslims, reverts, and born Muslims.

As I understand it, the teachers were told from the beginning that their new compound would be considered a Western compound. There are indications that might not be entirely true.

Rather than simply giving vague ideas that the compound would be a "Western" one (whatever on earth that means), wouldn't it be better to have a written policy on such matters as dress code (or lack of same) within the compound, and to have all residents indicate their acceptance by signing it?

Yes, indeed it would be better, Cleo. Maybe you should sign up for the Sheriff job at the PMU compound because there currently seems to be a lack of order there. Whoever wants to take control, does. This is very similar to how the whole operation is run. The proverbial chickens are running around looking for their heads, but their heads seem to be stuck up in a place that is dark and confusing.

The most disturbing problems are those which have elementary solutions but refuse to be solved.

A bit of additional information. If you are planning on applying to PMU, do it quickly while they still have money. Recently, they cut the department chairs' salaries by a third, and some teachers have yet to receive this last month's salary.

Interesting to stumble on this thread now. Back in January I received an e-mail from the Director of HR at PMU asking me if I was still interested in teaching there. (I had enquired some months previously but had heard nothing.) I said I was taking a year off but would keep them in mind. My reasoning is that if THEY are approaching ME, rather than vice versa, they must be desperate! Laughing
