Hi, I'm new here. I'm hoping to fly to Turkey in late summer to find a job teaching English, but at the moment I'm a bit concerned about what to put in my CV. Most of my experience is in office jobs, so do I mention these briefly or leave them out as irrelevant? I have got a tefl certificate and 6 months teaching experience too, but obviously I'm quite limited in what I can write about that!

Thanks

I think it depends a bit on how old you are, really-- If you're in your 30s or late 20s, I'd put at least some of the office jobs to show I'd been working the last several years, but it isn't really necessary if you're fresh out of school.

But that's just general advice for the real world-- here, many schools would hardly care about anything but the teaching, if that. So it also depends on what jobs you're applying for-- unis, some private schools and good dershanes would care, other places maybe not...

You've got a TEFL certificate and 6 months experience, right? And can you speak English? That should be enough. In my opinion, you don't have to worry about anything else. At the moment, they are hiring foreign teachers at some dershanes to teach English, who cannot speak English! The point is, would you be able to use crappy books which are attempted to be written by people who know *beep* all about TEFL?
And don't worry about your size, either, 90-60-90 (benim neyim noksan?) or whatever, We all come in different sizes!

Thanks, seems like I'm already halfway there as a native English speaker. When's the best time to fly out there - is September too late? I think I'll focus on language schools (dershanes?) rather then private schools, I've been scared off by the rich brat stories!

Mid-August may be better... Most people return to Istanbul from their long summer holidays before schools start sometime in September. Also it's better to give yourself a week or two for orientation. If you haven't lined up a job before you come, you need to find somewhere to stay, etc, you know all those common sense things. As far as I'm aware, most dershanes (correct, language schools) provide temporary/short term lojman (lodging) or a housing allowance for their teachers.
