|
I will be arriving in Doha later this Summer and want to connect with sports-minded people. Does anyone here have information regarding tennis clubs, gyms (with weight training facilities), inline-skating parks, beaches, or any other recreational facilities. I'm hoping that the 2006 Asian Games left some sort of legacy behind.
I am particularly interested in the following:
1. Quality
2. Location
3. Access
4. Cost
Thanks in advance |

I haven't lived there for a few years but you'll find that all the 5 star hotels have good gyms.I joined the Sheraton and it had a great beach too:)However they do cost quite a bit.The rugby club has weekly training and a cheap bar!!Of course there are beaches outside Doha, which are a short car journey away and totally unspoilt. There are squash leagues, tennis clubs and all sorts....you'll like that. There's also a dive and yacht club.Take some dosh to set yourself up with and you'll be fine:)Good luck. |

Nothing left anymore. Just very expensive clubs in the hotels. The Diplomatic Club will take you on for 12,000 QR. The same for the Al Dana Club. The Sheraton is also very pricey. The Falcon Club has disappeared (it cost QP staff almost nothing - you could eat a great meal for 20QR) I used to hang out in the coffee shop. This city is so expensive.
The only public beach by the Oasis Hotel is gone now. There are no public beaches anywhere in Doha. There's a strip of beach next to the Intercon but that is about to be developed. Anyway, there is tight security around there because some VIPs have beach houses in the vicinity. The Wakrah Beach is ruined. So is Sealine with all the dune bashers. Basically you have to go north for a good private beach or drive to Dhukan. This city has so much going for it but no good public beaches. They should build something like Jumerahh Beach in Dubai but people are too greedy to make a beach for the GP.
So if you're into beaches, you're out of luck in Doha. Maybe things are better in Al Khor. |
