I am an experienced tennis coach and administrator, and someone told me about a position in JET that I might be qualified for. It seems really interesting to me, but I can't find any info on the net. Does anyone know anything about this?
Cheers. |

http://www.jetprogramme.org/index.html
Click on "Aspiring JETs" then "Positions on JET" and it will show the following at the bottom of the page:
Sports Exchange Advisors (SEA)
SEAs work for local governments, coaching and working in athletics. SEAs are sports professionals whose role is to assist with sports training and the planning of sports-related projects. For the 2006 - 2007 JET Programme year, there are 18 SEAs placed throughout Japan.
*Recruitment of SEAs differs greatly from that of ALTs and CIRs, and applicants to the SEA position must be recommended by either the participating country's National Olympic Committee or another government organisation. |

Thanks, I did see that on the JET page, however that seems to be all there is. I was hoping to get more details. |

SEA's are an individually requested position - meaning, a town or prefecture has to specifically request a SEA for a specific role in a specific place for a specific reason. CLAIR will then try and find someone to fill that role and will only search within one or two identified countries for any given sport - eg. sailing SEAs tend to come from New Zealand, soccer from Germany or Brazil, wrestling from Russia.
CLAIR used to post details on what they were looking for on the JET website, or you can ask the local Embassy if they're recruiting for anything ATM, but unless you have a good record at a national or international level or have coached national level teams they probably won't look at you. |

Thanks, great info !!
I do have relative national/international experience. What happened was a client I coach said he knew a Japanese professor here in the states, and he told my friend about this position. I'm not sure if the professor has some kind of inside connections, or just knows about this position. I'm actually waiting to hear via an email, and was researching a bit 'til then.
I have worked with world class players at a tennis academy here from all over te world, and am a deveopmental coach for the USTA high performance kids, but maybe they are looking for more, I don't know.
It seems pretty amazing whatever it is, so I guess I can hope something comes through.
Thanks again !!!!!!!! |

SEA is a highly specialized position, but it sounds as if you might be qualified. If I were you, I would contact whichever consulate does JET recruitment for your area and inquire. |
