Our school has the typical one-week respites for National Day and International Labor Day, although we must make up two days' classes on a weekend. (So it's somewhat misleading to say we have a week off in each case.) In addition, there is the winter break between terms to celebrate Spring Festival, usually amounting to six weeks or thereabouts. For a ten-month contract, that's about it. You may get lucky at your individual school and enjoy a couple days off in the fall for athletic competition. Our school has something I have not seen at other schools, namely testing during the thirteenth week, in which the English majors do not participate, but their classes are still cancelled.

if you're on the ball, you can easily turn this less than a full work week off into a nine or ten day holiday. a couple of weeks prior to the week long holidays, just reschedule a few of your classes, compress your schedule, and you've got it.
