Fair enough WGuru, I felt the tone of some posts was as I said. I can't be bothered to look back, but I accept what you say.
I also had Sumatra in mind when I spoke about the average Indonesian women. I guess outside Jakarta is what, 10 years behind the capital?
Btw I agree with everything you say about women, men and the OP. I just thought that the feel of this thread, that you can no longer find what would be considered pretty conservative muslim women in Indo to be a bit exaggerated.
I am in Osaka now as you say, so maybe I am well out of touch, but I feel, when I visit, things haven't changed 180 degrees since I lived there.
Respect for your love life. You seem to be dating a whole load of women down there.
Oh, if young Indos are liberal in the bedroom department where do you suppose most get up to it? I mean, your average young Indonesian can't afford a love hotel. They still couldnt do it in their parents house and how easy is it too find a Indonesian girl, liberal or not, that will do it in a car?
Hmmm wouldn't mind doing some research on this.
To add. THe OP is 43, so the women he is after, one presumes, are more likely to be older and therefore more conservative too. |

Sorry mates Ive been offline for a few days. Ezekiel is a fine gent, indeed, as he has the decency to find something to agree with before he points out something else. Henry, you are a bit unfair to me mate. I have not attacked you personally, I think, but you have tried to lambast me. I dont understand that anger. Certainly to appease you I will write IMO from now on. I hope this makes you feel better.
In any case, to the guy feeling insulted about my description of males' sex drives and how easily males are aroused, Ill just quote a nice european, liberal, western GENIUS:
"The only way a man can be purely friends with a female, is if a SEVERE PHYSICAL ANTIPATHY exists." -- Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche.
C'mon, mate, you know you want to have something physical with that girl you are "only friends with". Unless she's married to your best friend and you just cant imagine that at all......hmmmmm, even THEN....
Thanks to the posters who commended me for my proactive plan. Also, I did not spend years in Mexico, I went to check it out but never worked there. Mainly to see the Pyramid of the Sun and of the Moon at Teotihuacan, and the city of Atlixco where a good friend of mine lives I met in New Jersey 10 years ago. I did not go to Mexico to find a wife. I did NOT criticise Mexicans' dress; I criticised the way westerners want to dress promiscuously in other peoples' countries. Let's get that straight. As for the reasons why I have not gone to the ME: it is nearly impossible for a non-engineer, non-doctor, etc. to get a work visa in the Gulf. I only have a BA in English. I have no teacher certification other than a 60-hr online thing. I have inquired several times into Gulf countries and always I was not qualified enough. Furthermore Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, and Algeria are not exactly very safe places right now. That leaves Syria, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia. And I am certainly interested in Morocco, at the very least. But honestly I choose Indo because I felt there would be more marriage possibilities due to the much larger population compared to Morocco.
Thanks to the poster who appreciates my honesty. Thanks to the poster who feels I may be misled by some of the responses here. Its true that wild westerners like henry would only seek out the more liberal "muslims", and would not be necessarily a good measuring stick for Indo Muslim girls in general. |

Oh 1 more thing or 2. Yes I have had intercourse in the 15 years since I converted, which certainly does make me a hypocrite. I am not blind to that. I am objecting to the girls who purposely give the outward public insinuation of being sexually liberal. I am objecting to a semi-naked (OK, to the pedantic poster who objected to my use of the word "naked"--I tend to exaggerate ((I forgot how to spell that word)). Certainly it is illegal to go 100% naked in the street. Really, poster, your "correction" of my depiction was quite silly.).
A scantily clad girl of 18 slinks and prances by a father who is walking with his wife and 5 yr old daughter hand-in-hand. The wife, who may be 25 or 30 or 35, surely feels uncomfortable by this, the man surely takes a good look at the 17 yr old, and there;s where the MENTAL INFIDELITY begins. This begets in many cases PHYSICAL INFIDELITY. Also, it begets jealousy, arguments, accusations, insecurity, between spouses. It also begets extra-marital desire. Henry and other here: YOU REALLY HONESTLY DONT SEE THESE THINGS AS POISON and you just cannot imagine how all of the bombardment in the media and in public with images of "naked" women DEGRADES a society? Are you guys really honestly saying that America's 64% divorce rate has NOTHING TO DO with this blatant depravity???
On a final note, Pausanias, a famous student of Pythagoras, is quoted as once asking his master: "O Pythagoras, when should a man, then, approach a woman?"..... to which that great wise man Pythagoras replied: "When he wants to lose what little strength he has."
Yes, for all our machissimo, we men ARE weak when it comes to sexual temptation. No matter what some of us would love to think. |

Henry_Cowell..don't know if you teach English but you're a man after my own heart..Here's a trick anyway, if in doubt, or without a witty comeback, pick apart someone's English instead..eitherhoo, I try to take pride in the accurateness of my language and I guarantee that you can count my typing errors in my posts on one or two hands, my friend!
In reference to my comment on anarchy, my point is that it is deluded and erroneous to think that anyone in any country, Indonesia included, can 'live their lives as they want' or be 'free from control by (men and) goverment'..that's clearly hippie bull, duuuude, and not what Indonesia as a developing nation crying out for clear-cut rules, standardization and discipline needs, that's for sure..peace and love and good happiness stuff! ezekiel

"eclectic"--
Which of Islam's thousands of precepts and commandments (Koran + hadith + sharia) do you follow strictly? Which do you not follow? |

i totally disagree.
i've noticed that most people end up not answering his questions not because they " pay no mind" or can't be bothered, but because they can't.
the arguments he poses are fair and backed my genuine knowledge. the "squabbles" he gets into on this and other forums usually end ( or die off) with him asking a question that no one can answer, or by making a comment that no one can rebuke. to henry, i say, keep it up.
to eclectic, i say, maybe indonesia isn't what you thought it to be. and are you sure that need to go all the way to the other side of the earth to find a wife that is good enough for you?.... i wish you good luck but find it disheartening to see someone that has to go to such lengths to find a worthy partner. |

"Miyazaki" is somebody who came to this thread just because I have repeatedly thrashed her/him on the Taiwan forum for being a stooge.

I'm sure that "eclectic" would approve of the now well-publicized reaction of a German public bus driver to a woman who (he claimed) was distracting him with her scanty attire.
German Bus Driver Can't Take Eyes Off Passenger's Cleavage
16 July 2007
http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,2693860,00.html
Normally it's the drunk and unruly passengers who end up getting kicked to the curb, but, after getting an eye-full, an easily distracted driver in Germany shouted at a woman for wearing a low-cut blouse on his bus....
...After boarding a bus in the southern German city of Landau, Debora C. took her seat and waited to get to work, not realizing that the bus driver was making use of his mirror to stare into her cleavage -- to the point where he stopped concentrating on the road.
"Suddenly he stopped the bus, opened the door and snorted, 'Your cleavage is distracting me when I look in the mirror. I can't concentrate on the road. If you don't sit somewhere else, I'm going to have to throw you off the bus,'" Debora told Germany's Bild newspaper on Monday.
Instead of giving him the slap in the face -- and sexual harassment suit -- he deserved, the 20-year-old saleswoman switched seats and continued her journey.... |

Good bloke if you ask me! sounds like he was putting the safety of his passengers before the opportunity to get a good eyeful..besides, what if the woman was a minger? I think I'd complain too. |

Yep, that's a really professional guy -- so professional that he blamed the woman rather than his own wandering eye and prurient interest. |

What you will find, however, is that for the most part Indonesia is a very relaxed form of Islam...
Many of the girls, even the ones wearing a jilbab, will still wear tight jeans, t-shirts, etc... and some will even have 'fun' on the first date.
If you are looking for a hard-core muslim woman, I am sure you can find one in Indonesia.... but it will take some looking for.
Why don't you go for a visit first? There might be better places in the world to go to find a hard-core muslim. |
Unfortunately, the statements above provide a clearer insight into where you choose to hang out rather than the average Indonesian female's attitude to religion. I feel that you are smply illustrating that a very small minority of Indonesian girls dress the way that you have described, while, in fact, the vast majority still dress very conservatively.
Oh yes, and Henry is a stooge - but he is a good stooge and always popular in my book. And in all fairness he does appear to know more about this country than any other regular contributor (myself excluded of course).
