Teaching in LA isn't like Asia. Finding a job beforehand and getting a visa can be difficult. I was just wondering if any of you have used placement agencies to get jobs. And what you think about placement agencies in LA? Any good ones out there? |

No I haven`t used one, but I would be dubious about using one in South America unless it had a great reputation. |

I can't answer specifically, but I would imagine that much of the placement that goes on might be between training institutions and their customers. My EFL school, TEFL Institute (http://www.teflinstitute.com/index.php) said that they offer placement in the countries where they have contact institutions. They have contacts in Asia, Africa, Mexico, Central America, Peru, Chile, Argentina, and Spain. In Per they have an office now in Cuzco.
Another route taken may be through corporate contract organzations, such as Manpower Per (http://www.manpowerperu.com.pe/) which apparentely does serve some Peruvian customers. I am not sure at this writing if they do placement in language teaching or support.
However, I think, the best way to find employment is through a professional network such as Dave's ESL Caf, the two Yahoo groups that naturegirl administrates and of course good ole Expat Per (http://www.expatperu.com/). And through those networks it is relatively easier to pass your resumedirectly to a hiring manager with a personal reference or as a favor. Getting an interview is the best way to show what you know, how you have performed in the past, and how you could fit in with the team in the future. |
