I'm going to be moving to Queretaro at the beginning of next year with my husband who's Mexican and I'd like to teach English. I have the CELTA and a year's experience. Does anyone have any ideas on good schools? Also what do I need to be able to teach at university? I have a degree in Modern Languages but wondered if I needed to do a Masters too before I could get work.
Any tips, etc would be appreciated.

There are a number of universities in Queretaro, I'm sure they all have their own requirements. If you are arriving at the beginning of the year (Jan.?) that is the middle of the academic year. There might not be that many openings.
I don't think a Masters is required to get a job...but it would get you a better job.
I taught at the Tec de Monterrey about 10 years ago and loved it. No Masters degree. But maybe a lot has changed in 10 years. Other people, with more recent experiences, at other campuses, have not had such positive experiences with the Tec. (See the "Tec Monterrey campus choices" thread. It also has contact info)

If you are willing to teach at a language school for very bad pay, there are a lot of them, and your CELTA and experience would be more than sufficient, I would think.

There is also the primaria, secundaria or prepa route, depending on your tolerance for children. I had a brief and very unpleasant experience teaching very privileged, spoiled 14 year-olds.

If you husband is from the area and has family and other contacts there--milk them--that's how things work in Mexico. In many cases it can be a lot more profitable to just give private lessons if you have established contacts. You can get an FM3 based on your marriage---BUT THAT DOESN'T ALLOW YOU TO WORK LEGALLY. If you are interested in doing privates and doing them legally then you should look into getting an independent FM3. Hacienda, the tax people, have just made it easier for professionals, like independant English teachers, to take care of their own taxes without the services of an accountant. So just find a place to live with a suitable spare room for lessons, print up some business cards and get the extended family to tell all their friends about the great new English teaching in the family and your in business!
