It could be much worse. In Tokyo, the mad rush is so horrendous that the city has subway car packers, civil servants whose sole function is to squeeze as many commuters in a car at the same time.

Oh, I lived in Japan and I've been in the crunch there--but it was a lot easier to stomach because the cars weren't all crudy and actually had comfortable seats. The train line I lived on had a long continuous bench along both sides facing in (easy to slide down and squeeze one more onto the bench), with plenty of room in the middle for standing and not need to plan three stops ahead when you were going to try to get out because the arrangement meant it was a lot easier to make your way to the doors than on the metro's seats in rows with narrower isles.

Best thing to do is live in the city and not the burbs so you're always going against the flow..that or walking. I pretty much walk to wherever I need to go.[/quote]

I think that being able to walk 'most everywhere you need to go on a daily basis is the key to staying sane while living in Mexico City.

Only those who use a car and can go where they want, when they want, without being treated like cattle on public transport! Very Happy
