I have read on this board that it's quite a bit more expensive to buy Apple computers in the UAE, so I was thinking of purchasing one in the States before I come over. I have been trying to find out exactly how much more Apples are in the UAE to figure out if it's worth buying one in the US when taking into account that I will have to pay state tax and hundreds of dollars on a warranty that will cover me internationally on my new computer.
I am planning on buying the 15 inch Mac Book Pro. Any Apple buffs out there have any idea how much this would be in the UAE? Cheers!!!! |

Available from Jumbo, an electronics store with branches throughout the UAE. the costs are :
MacBook White Dhs 5,299
MacBook Black Dhs 6,999
MacBook Pro 15" Dhs 8,899
MacBook Pro 17" 12,299
How do these prices compare with those in US? |

There is a Mac store in the Abu Dhabi Mall. The prices quoted above are probably the same there. It isn't an official Apple Store, but they have a fair selection of things for a small shop. I bought a G5 in Japan just over a year ago. It was a little bit more expensive. I had it shipped to the UAE. Once the import tax was added on (500dhs) that knocked the price up a bit. If you are just arriving in the UAE, you may not have to pay any import tax. I haven't really thought about it too much, but I'd guess it would work out to be 10 to 15 percent more expensive that US prices. |

Thanks a million to all of you. This has made me decide to buy one here in the US, as the Mac Book Pro 15 inch that I want is $1999, plus I get a $200 discount for being a teacher and a few rebates for other products if I buy a Mac. It definitely works out better to buy one here.
Thanks again! |
