How much do jobs in Mexico pay? I was wondering if it is possible to pay $125 in student loan payments while working in Mexico? |

What kind of job and where in Mexico?
Language schools around the country - in and around 6000 pesos per month (10 pesos to the dollar, roughly). Sometimes less, sometimes more.
Private elementary, secondary schools - 6000-12000 pesos per month, maybe more.
Uni - 6000-12000 and up, depending on hours.
You would only have trouble paying that $125 a month if you worked at a language school. |

Guy Courchesne,
I don't have any preferences. I would like to live in a city with some night life. I am willing to work at whatever institute will hire me. I only have a B.A. but have taught in a Korean University. I went to graduate school but found that German Literature was not for me. I taught German for two years as a graduate student and then taught in South Korea. |

I've been doing some research recently and the going rate for private institutions in D.F. is now around $100-150 p.h....if you can find somewhere that offers a decent schedule. For 20 - 25 hours per week, you're looking at between $8000 - $15000 pm. These schools do exist, but it takes a lot of searching and luck. Unfortunately the "big" companies, such as Berlitz, Harmon Hall, Interlingua and Wall Street institute seem to be the worst payers. Quick Learning is currently advertising $14000-18000pm, but I've been told that this has many if's & buts.
I think I will start a new thread to find out about that! |

Why don`t you read your student loan contract first before asking the question? You are temporarily absolved from paying back your US student loan if your yearly income falls below $16,000 US. (That figure is as of 1994, there`s been about 20% inflation since then). |

You can be your loan defered for a year like this but not forever. Furthermore if one has non-government loans I don't think that works. |

Where are you now? School starts fairly soon and if you aren't here for an interview, they will take whoever is. |

I am in the United States but am willing to interview on the phone anytime they want. I am not expecting the best job from abroad but a job would be nice. |

So the University of Delaware -- and the taxpayers of the state of Delaware -- gave you a free ride and you DID NOT get the degree? Shame on you! |

Since I don't plan on ever teaching German the degree is really not that useful. |

So why did you attend graduate school on a fellowship? Just because it didn't cost you any tuition fees? Did you know you didn't ever want to teach German or study German literature before you began? |
