Does anyone have experience of Quick Learning?
They are currently advertising jobs at $14000 - $18000 pm, but I've heard that there are too many conditions attached, such as making sales, attending masses (!!!!) etc.
Does anyone know the truth?
BTW, when I enquired a few years ago, they wouldn't even take my details as I was over 40 (I still am!). Never mind that I may have been the best teacher in Mexico (I'm not, but they don't know that!)....Ageism! |

I was supposed to go for a scheduled interview back in the spring but never showed. I had gotten enough work in the first few weeks and was put off that they scheduled my interview a week in advance. Shows that they were not very serious.
I was not impressed at all with the staff when I walked in off the street initially, nor was I impressed with the level of conversational English of the person I spoke to on the phone to make the appointment.
When I first showed up, I had to repeat myself three times when speaking with the teacher wandering around. Yes she was a teacher as she was wearing the school uniform. I had to repeat myself twice when she introduced me to the jefe in attendance. So that just goes to show....I would say for the most part keep away from the chain schools...The people making the decision for hiring are too far removed from the owners and are probably giving the teaching jobs to friends... The exception I have found is the International House which is well run.
The worst experience was with Interlingua. The training coordinator in the Merida program was an avowed sadist...Even told the class her favorite website was one which had a daily change of dismemberment pixes. |

This may be unfair of me, but I'm put off by the name of the school. It implies that English can be learned quickly, which, as we all know, is never the case. I sense an attempt to "scam" prospective students by promising something that can't be delivered! |

That could be why they pay teachers more! The pressure is on to deliver the promised result.... |

I worked for QL in Houston, so I can't really vouch for Mexico, but we got paid hourly (on par with what Berlitz pay here) with a setup that offered potential bonuses for attendance and high reenrollment in our classes.
There were no conditions at all other than that. No selling, no church, nothing.
Our students were all adult, so there were the ugly split shifts; 9-12 and 6-9 - but I don't think this is the case in Mexico.
I have actually considered going down to teach in one of their branches in Mexico, so if you would PM me and let me know where to find that ad, I'd be grateful.
Let me know if you have any more questions. |

If QL pays on a par with Berlitz, that's not much of a recommendation. I recall looking into a job with Berlitz in NYC where the pay was about $8.00 an hour just a few years ago. |

Wow, $8 is hard to believe, especially in NYC. Berlitz here starts at $12 last I heard (about a year ago). |
