There is nothing to fear in Japan! You worked for four years in Korea? Congratulations, that's a solid grounding to survive anywhere.

I worked there too for a while and I enjoyed it but there are any no. of downers about it including being hamstrung by not owning your own visa, dishonesty thick on the ground among hagwon owners (lucky I never worked for a hagwon), blatant shows of xenophobia and invasions of privacy with no apology or notion that these behaviours are not acceptable.

You will find working in Japan a far better experience I am sure. However, on the money issue - people who work in Korea tend to rake in the money in comparison to Japan. Employers there do not give you a free apartment, heavily subsidised or free utilities, plane ticket etc. I had all those and my employers kept their promises.

In Japan - sorry but you might find it an unpleasant shock. Too expensive, little value in many ways, nothing like the cheapness of Korea. But you obviously have the character to survive anywhere I think!

Hey, thanks for the encouragement guys!

There is something to be said for making a lot of money, but spending most of it because of unhappiness....versus........making less money but being happy, or content at least.

I know, I'm not different then anyone coming to Japan for the first time so many of these things sound trivial to most of you. I'm pretty excited about this, and I am aware of financial differences between this position in Japan, versus a position in Korea.

These things are SUPPOSED to be provided in Korea, but often times...teachers are getting the shaft when it comes to what they are owed.

If I have to take a loss to get my foot in the door in Japan, with a good school (which I'm confident it is) then I guess I gotta do what I gotta do.
