What salary do you consider to be excellent pay for a 40 hour teaching job in Beijing?I know salary shouldn't be the only consideration when choosing a job.Yet please focus on the question in any replies. |

An expensive town and housing is usually not provided. If true 10K/month is OK and 12-15K/month would be "excellent" there, IMHO.

Not falling-off-a-log easy but it can be done. Same rule applies as anywhere else in China....be patient and persistant. Hold out for what you really want and eventurally you will find it!

I have heard of lesser towns in China getting crowded by new arrivals! The capital has for ages been the location of choice - followed by Shanghai. How easy it was in years gone by! These days - don't forget gloves, a sweater and woollies for your ears as you are going to spend a lot of your time walking from school to school, exposed to the elements! |

When I worked at Wall Street Institute i was getting just over 14,000 a month without an apt. But that was just over a year ago so I don't know what they are paying now. |

Glen_2003,
Are you any relation to Jen_2003, who often contributes salary-related posts on this forum? |

40 hours??? Most jobs in cheaper cities would pay 100 an hour or so for hours above 15-20. So lets say it pays the normal minimum of 3500. So then you have at least 80 hours of OT. So off the top of my head about about 12000 should be a bare minimum fo this. I get roughly 6000 for about 20 hours now so that makes sense.
And I guess it depends on the perks. I dont know if you should expect more just because you are in Beujing. China can be rather expensive everywhere. |
