No matter how many times you've played the TW visa game, it seems you can never feel totally at ease when the time comes for a new one, due to inconsistent treatment by beloved TECO staff. I've learned to try to cover all bases, thought I had this one well planned, but now I'm not so sure...

Had a student ARC which I let expire when I had to make a home visit for family reasons. I secured a contract for a FT job before leaving TW, to begin later upon my return. (my little secret, as I didn't want any problems while on student status. or when applying for a new visitor's visa.) The 60 day visa I got from Vancouver TECO has 'no extension', and 'employment prohibited' stamp on it. I didn't think it was a good idea to have my school apply for the work permit while here on such a visa. Now its getting down to the wire. Visa expires in one week. School has now applied for my work permit with a starting date after visa expiry date.

I know I have to do a visa run, but I probably won't have the work permit in hand before I go, so can't get a resident visa .......So do I show them my school's work permit application copies and contract, and ask for a visitor's visa for employment purposes, or dummy up and ask for the good ol' tourism visitors visa? Showing proof of funds for the latter is an issue right now. Will showing them a contract and proof of work permit application exempt me from the proof of funds requirement? I'm not sure which way to go.... what do you think?

Has your school applied for the work permit? If you have the new work permit then you should go to BOCA and apply for a resident visa. This is a new visa. Provided all your paperwork is in order it should be issued to you. This negates the problem of having to extend your visitor's visa.
