I was focused more on the American greed, because I feel like Americans (including myself) need to be more active about saving the world, and promoting peace than desrtoying it with war and poverty. I am truely disgusted with the "God Bless The US" Bumper stickers. I want a sticker that says God Bless all of us! I'll never forget how in the 90's Clinton was almost impeached for having an affair. What about impeaching Bush, Cheny, and Rice (The new axis of evil) for starting a war on false grounds?
I know China is greedy as well. I have a few toys from Mattel that need to be sent back to the company. I know for a fact that my 3 year old put them all in her mouth. *ssh*les Who wants to buy a vowel?
And why are the good threads getting locked? What happend to freedom of speech? |

| The only reason we haven't seen any changes after the last election is because only one-third of Senate seats are up for election every two years. In '08 another 33 seats will be up for grabs and one hopes that another 18 or so Republicans or so will bite the dust...and the new president will be a Democrat. Then you'll see big changes. Why do I think a Dem will become Prez? Not just the polls, which can change, but the fact that Bush and his cronies want to extend his war into infinity..but the American people will not put up with that, trust me on that. If we had an extra 20 Dems on the Senate now, Bush and Cheney would have already been impeached. |

As an American who follows politics here very closely, I am not optimistic that much will change whatever party wins. Our system is now third world cronyism... with the corporatists and Military Industrial Complex running the show... and owning almost all of the politicians on both sides of our two so-called parties, certainly enough to cement their power for generations. The 'average American' is too fat and happy to give a damn...
But, this is not a topic for this board and if it goes much further will probably get locked anyway.

It does not matter who will win the USA election, the Democrats and the Republicans are two faces of the same coin.
The 'average American' is physically fat, mentally ill, and he can walk the walk?
BTW, I wonder why the name of the Democrat Barack Hussein Obama includes 'Hussein' (Islamic name), knowing that he is a member of the United Church of Christ? |

VS is right. Politics are a volatile issue, and there are lots and lots of other internet-based forums that focus on them.
We used to have a regular correspondant on Dave's called Raven who pushed the political debate to a point where we now have the warning across the General Discussion board about closing non-teaching-related topics.
I have to say I agree with the limitation - if I want to rant about politics, there are plenty of other forums. We have a particularly sensitive situation here, with views ranging from those of 007 to some really strong right-wingers. I think its better to focus on what we have in common in terms of the overall topic of the forum - ESL. |

I wonder on what grounds the "Dems" could impeach Bush and Cheney?
Certainly not for leading the country into an illegal war, since most "Dems" were gung-ho in favour of that war, and have went along with every troop and spending increase since then. |

I think Obama's father is a Muslim.
No doubt that is almost as embarrassing for him as his previous friendship with Edward Said. I look forward to watching him debase himself in his attempts to prove his eternal friendship to the sacred state of Izzreel. |

I am asking this question seriously:
Why should he be embarrassed by his friendship with Said?
I am a bit confused about why Americans are judging him and Hillary by such standards- clearly standards weren't an issue in the last two elections.
I'm for Richardson, anyway, but my second choice is Obama, and the last resort for me is Hillary. And, have you seen what the Republicans are running?
I at least want someone educated enough to believe in evolution and equal rights.
I also don't see much difference between a Muslim, a Mormon, and a Born Again Christian. |
